John is a 44 year old Professional Photographer come Stay at Home Dad come House Husband, living in Petts Wood in the SE London Borough of Bromley.
Previously, John had worked in three London Universities since 2001 in Finance, specialising in Research Grants Funding. Prior to that, John had graduated with a BA degree in Economics and spent 3 years working for the local NHS Trust before getting that first job in the University.
John met Alison in 2014 and married her in 2016 after a whirlwind romance.
John has a teenager Izzy from a previous relationship and John and Alison have little Ava-Mae who was born in 2019. They also have another baby on the way, due summer 2021. They have a cat, called Gansta aka Gongsty.
Alison has since introduced John to a world of Travel, Food, Wine and Gin which has blown his mind, quite literally. Alison has also introduced John to television beyond the Sky Sports channels. Masterchef Australia, Masterchef USA, likely every other cooking show produced. Love Island, First Dates, Tempation Island and now Married at First Sight Australia has become almost essential, addictive viewing after a hard day.
Having lived on his own for the best part of five years prior to meeting Alison, John learned how to look after himself. He could cook the basics, do the washing and ironing and even took pride in the housework. It was a much needed education and very much part of the growing up process. Its a real shame it took so long.
When living on his own, John decided to get fit. He bought a road bike and joined a cycling club. Within 18 months, he cycled the iconic London to Paris route. A year later, he cycled London to Brussels via Amsterdam. This was a huge achievement for a fella in his mid-to-late 30s who had never looked after himself before and had spent the majority of his teens and twenties smoking B&H Gold. When the weight dropped off, John switched to running and ended up running 6 marathons in the space of 3 years, 4 of which were only six months apart.
Sadly injury put paid to the running and cycling and after a few years of doing nothing much but enjoy nice food and drink, John has got himself back in the right frame of mind and had been walking the best part of 15,000 steps a day for the last year.
John's brother suffers from Bipolar Disorder, so mental health issues and charities are close to John's heart. John is also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.
John has been in a up-and-down relationship with Tottenham Hotspur since the early-to-mid 80s, following them home, away and across Europe. John is also an avid follower of cricket and he'll happily watch almost any sport on television (apart from Horse Racing!)

Midlife Londoner is John's brainchild to get all of his passions in one place and was conjured up in his head on yet another cold, icy walk in January 2021. To write about issues that effect all of us in predominantly middle age. To write about becoming a parent (again) in middle age. To review stuff, whether it be a must-have gadget, or even if its a new brand of nappies or baby wipes. To review places to go, review restaurants from the point of view of a parent with kids in tow, etc etc. The stuff that is important, cutting the wheat the chaff.
